On Saturday, Taylor Swift made a surprise visit at the Tribeca Film Festival.
She spoke with indie director Mike Mills for an hour at New York’s Beacon Theatre about her short film for “All Too Well,” providing a fascinating glimpse into her creative process. Meet Film Geek (Taylor’s Version), a whole new side of Dr. Swift.
Taylor has been social media silent for the majority of the year.
She gave her NYU commencement speech last month, but she went even more personal here, sharing how John Cassavetes and Barbara Stanwyck affected her filmmaking.
She screened the film and invited stars Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien to attend. To top it off, she finished with a solo acoustic rendition of “All Too Well,” which she performed solo.
Taylor adopted a tough cineaste persona, which seemed suitable for such a prestigious film festival. “I’ve never seen an exploding helicopter,” she said, paraphrasing John Cassavetes.
I’ve never witnessed somebody blowing someone’s head off. So why am I making movies about them? “But I’ve seen people destroy themselves in the most insignificant ways,” Swift concluded.
